1895 TO 1898 MAIL TRANSPORTATION ISSUE ON COVERS - SPECTACULAR EXHIBITION COLLECTION. A wonderful collection of very fine and attractive covers presented and expertly annotated bearing many extremely rare and even unique frankings and rates. Presented by value from the 1c greens to the 20c brown- roses, each value included within different frankings on several different covers, for example the collection begins with an 1898 (16 Feb) Acapulco to Mexico City cover bearing 1c greens (2) & 4c oranges (2) making a probably unique 10c domestic rate (for 15g) franking combination, and onwards we see many spectacular 3, 4 & 5 - colour frankings such as (still with the 1c greens here) a 1895 registered postal card sent within Mexico City bearing 1c, 2c, 4c & 12c stamps making the only recorded 19c registered local city rate cover, also an example of an 1895 env bearing 1c greens (2) making a rare example of the non-USA 2c overseas rate (to France), also a block of ten 1c greens used as postage dues on an 1896 cover from Germany, other interesting usages of the 1c greens include the making-up of non-UPU rates on covers to Foochow, China (1896) and to Saffi, Morocco (1898); the exhibit continues through the 2c reds including an example applied over a 2c revenue stamp in an apparently failed attempt to defraud the post, 3c orange- browns with some possibly unique small- town cancellations from San Ignacio & Topia amongst very rare mixed frankings / routes; 4c yellow- oranges incl an example of the unique Huitzuco oval town cancel, 5c ultramarine incl several lovely advertising items, 10c lilac incl the only block recorded on cover, also usage on illustrated advertising cover, registered parcel tag, etc, 12c olive- browns incl usage on illustrated advertising cover, 15c bright blues include the largest recorded block (of 6) on a 96c registered registered cover to Zurich, also an example used as a postage due on a stampless cover from the Canary Islands to Puebla, finally the 20c brown- roses on spectacular covers to Bohemia and to Austria. This description barely does the collection justice as each cover is of exhibition quality and scarcity, and each has been carefully researched to give the best possible overview of the myriad of rates and services available at the time of this colourful stamp issue. Certainly this collection would be valued at a higher total price if offered cover by cover.
